RECORD TRAFFIC AT TUNNEL IN 2007
CLEAR CREEK/SUMMIT COUNTIES – Nearly 12 million vehicles traveled through the Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnels in 2007, making it the busiest year in its 34-year history.
The 2007 traffic count reached 11,775,017 vehicles, exceeding the 2006 vehicle count of 11,092,693 by 6.2 percent. The average daily traffic count of 32,260 also surpassed the 30,391 average in 2006.
December was the only month last year that did not exceed the same month in 2006. The 941,955 vehicles that traveled through the tunnels last month was 3,821 short of the 2006 count due to the adverse weather closure of Interstate 70 on December 30 and 31.
