TRAFFIC ADVISORY
GIRDER INSTALLATION TO CLOSE I-25 NEAR 128TH AVENUE NEXT WEEK

ADAMS COUNTY – On Sunday, March 16th and Monday, March 17th, weather permitting, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close all lanes of northbound and southbound I-25 between 120th Avenue and 136th Avenue for girder installation. A single lane of I-25 in both directions will close at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 10 p.m. both nights. All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. each day.

During the full closure, a detour route will be in place which takes southbound motorists off I-25 at 136th Avenue and then over to Huron Street and then to 120th Avenue where access to southbound I-25 is available. Motorists on northbound I-25 will be taken off I-25 at 120th Avenue and then over to Huron Street and then to 136th Avenue where access to northbound I-25 is available.

“The detour routes will be well marked and should allow motorists to return to I-25 fairly quickly,” said CDOT Project Engineer Tim Custy. “However, it’s still important for motorists to plan ahead and provide extra time to travel through the detour.”

In addition to the work on March 16th and 17th, motorists can expect single lane closures on northbound or southbound I-25 for the next several weeks as crews install deck panels. The closures will be in place Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDOT would like to remind motorists to pay attention, plan ahead and most of all, “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

The work is part of a project that replaces the existing 128th Avenue bridge over I-25 with one that is approximately 73 feet wide to accommodate two through lanes in each direction as well as a 10-foot sidewalk on each side.

Jalisco International Inc. is the contractor for this $6.3 million project. The entire project will be complete by the end of June 2008.
