BERTHOUD PASS SAFETY PROJECT STARTS NEXT WEEK

GRAND COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) begins slope repairs on the west side of Berthoud Pass on Monday, July 21. Operations include rock scaling and excavation, seeding and mulching, about four miles east of Winter Park (mile 237.5), along U.S. 40. This project includes the installation of road closure gates near Mary Jane, east of Winter Park.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to noon on Friday. Safety considerations during rock scaling will require traffic stops up to 20 minutes. The speed limit through the area will be reduced to 45 mph.

Tricon 2 LLC of Castle Rock, CO., is the contractor for the $299,000 project. Completion is scheduled for late August 2008.

CDOT reminds motorists that information about this and other state highway projects is available on the cotrip.org website or by calling 511. Drivers also are asked to please Slow for the Cone Zone, stay alert and pay attention to and obey all work zone/advisory signs and flaggers.
