TRAFFIC ON US 34 RETURNS TO NORMAL FOLLOWING BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT

LARIMER COUNTY The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has now completely opened the new US 34 bridge over the Big Thompson River at milepost 81.13, which is near Drake. The bridge has been under construction since February while crews completely replaced the 73-year-old, structurally deficient bridge.

“Last Friday, we completed all the road work and were able to open all lanes of the new US 34 bridge,” said CDOT Project Engineer Miranda Roskop. “The opening took place nearly one month ahead of schedule and just in time for the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend.”

At this time, all of the roadway work is complete, but there will be some minor work taking place around the bridge over the next couple of weeks. The work should not require any additional lane closures; however, CDOT would like to remind motorists to “Slow for the Cone Zone” as workers may still be on site.

SEMA Construction, Inc. is the contractor of this $2.6 million project.
