TRAFFIC ADVISORY
TRAFFIC REALIGNMENT TO CAUSE SOME DELAYS ON I-25 THIS SUNDAY
WELD COUNTY – On Sunday, July 20th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will realign southbound I-25 between State Highway (SH) 66 and SH 119 onto the new concrete pavement as part of an ongoing widening project. To complete this work, there will be some lane closures and ramp closures starting at 9 p.m.
For the first four hours of the realignment, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., the right lane of southbound I-25 as well as the on and off-ramps at SH 66 will be closed (the ramps on northbound I-25 at SH 66 will not be impacted). Once crews have removed barrier and completed some striping, the right lane and ramps will reopen and the left lane will close.
Crews will work the remainder of the night, from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., completing the realignment. By 5 a.m. on Monday, all lanes and ramps will reopen and motorists will be traveling on the new concrete pavement just to the west of the current alignment.
During the closure, delays are expected and alternate routes are advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, stay alert and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
Sunday’s work is part of a project that reconstructs and widens approximately 3.5 miles of I-25 in concrete from four lanes to six lanes between SH 119 and SH 66. The project also replaces five bridges including the I-25 bridges over the St. Vrain River, Weld County Road 28 and the SH 66 bridge over I-25. The I-25/SH 66 interchange will also be reconstructed to allow for two through lanes and two turn lanes in each direction of SH 66.
Interstate Highway Construction is the contractor for this $48.6 million project, which is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2009.
