SH 82 RESURFACING PROJECT BEGINS WEST OF BASALT
GARFIELD COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a resurfacing project on SH 82 between MP 17.5 and MP 21 in the El Jebel/Willits area on Monday, June 30.
The resurfacing work will include a 1-inch leveling course of asphalt, which will be overlaid with another 2 inches of asphalt for the wearing course. The project will also include guardrail and signing improvements, and pavement markings.
For the duration of the project, which is anticipated to be complete by fall 2008, traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the work zones during non-peak periods of traffic. During peak periods of traffic there will not be any construction activities or lane closures. “Peak periods of traffic” are defined as between 6:30 am and 9:00 am in the eastbound (up-valley) direction and between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the westbound (down-valley) direction, Monday thru Friday. Hours of work will be daylight hours, Monday through Friday and some weekends, weather permitting.
The speed limit through the construction work zones will be reduced to 35 mph for the safety of the project personnel and the traveling public. Crews greatly appreciate motorists traveling “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
CDOT has contracted this project to Elam Construction, Inc., of Grand Junction, for $3.68 million.
