SH 133 ENTRANCE TO CARBONDALE
CURRENT WORK REQUIRES RIGHT-TURN LANE CLOSURE
SH 82 DELAYS EXPECTED DURING PEAK TRAVEL
GARFIELD COUNTY – CDOT contractor SEMA Construction is currently reconstructing the existing bridge deck (reinforced concrete with an asphalt overlay) and tying the two structures together with a raised median. This will be followed by installing drainage improvements and reconstructing the bridge approaches on the west side of the bridge. In order to complete this phase of work, the eastbound (up-valley) right-turn deceleration lane onto SH 133 from SH 82 will remain closed full time, through the project’s completion in September, as it provides a work area and space for equipment storage.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS: Up-valley SH 82 commuters should anticipate weekday 10- to 15-minute delays at the SH 133/SH 82 intersection during peak periods of travel through September. Delays during non-peak periods of travel are typically less than 5 minutes.
ALTERNATE ROUTES: Motorists traveling to or from the area down-valley from Carbondale are advised to use CR 154 and CR 109 (Westbank and Hardwick Bridge Road) to access Carbondale from SH 82. Motorists traveling to or from the area up-valley from Carbondale are advised to use CR 100 (Catherine Store Road) to access Carbondale from SH 82.
The reconstruction of the SH 133 entrance to Carbondale is on schedule and within budget, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. CDOT has contracted this project to SEMA Construction, Inc. of Centennial, Colorado for $4.64 million.
