PILOT CARS SET TO MOVE TRAFFIC THROUGH U.S. 287 PROJECT

PROWERS COUNTIES – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) begins pilot car operations next week as part of the concrete reconstruction of U.S. 287, south of Lamar.

Beginning on Wednesday, July 16, pilot cars will alternate one lane of traffic for approximately seven miles. The project begins approximately two miles south of Lamar (mile 73) and continues south to mile 60. This operation will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through October 2008. Delays up to 30 minutes should be expected.

The entire project includes rebuilding the highway in concrete, shoulder and bridge widening, new concrete box culverts, embankment improvements, signing, seeding, mulching and striping. It is scheduled for completion in June 2009.
