TURN LANE PROJECT BEGINS ON HIGHWAY 115
FREMONT COUNTY – Work is underway on a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project to add left turn lanes along State Highway 115, about three miles north of Penrose. It includes widening the highway to allow construction of a combined northbound and southbound left turn lane between County Road 45F and Barnes Road, and a right turn deceleration lane at CR 45F.
Project hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Only shoulder closures are in place during the first two weeks of work. Beginning in late July, single lane closures will be in place for up to two weeks (one lane will remain open in each direction), with lane shifts through the work zone for paving operations, and a reduced 45 mph speed limit. Shoulder closures resume during the final two to three weeks of the project.
“This is primarily a safety project,” says CDOT Traffic Engineer Joe DeHeart. “By removing left turning vehicles from the through lanes, it can reduce accidents and traffic delays for through traffic.”
Scott Contracting Inc., of Henderson, CO., is the contractor for the $345,000 project. It is scheduled for completion in mid-August 2008.
