RESURFACING PROJECT UPDATES
US 550 RED MOUNTAIN PASS
US 550 RIDGWAY TO COLONA
RESURFACING ON RED MTN. PASS: CDOT Contractor United Companies is progressing well on the resurfacing project on US HWY 550 over Red Mountain Pass. Work began on May 27th and will finish up before the end of August.
Paving and shouldering operations began at mile marker 70, just north of Silverton, and are progressing north to mile marker 89, between the snow shed and the Bear Creek Tunnel. Working hours are 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday through Saturday. Motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic, with delays of approximately 20 minutes, depending upon traffic volumes.

CHIP SEALING, RIDGWAY TO COLONA: United Companies is also working on a chip seal project on US 550 from Ridgway to Colona. Chip seal application is now complete. Crews will lay temporary striping on Saturday, June 14, then suspend operations on Monday and Tuesday during the Ride the Rockies bike tour. Work will resume on Wednesday, June 18, with a protective fog coat application and final striping. Work hours may be extended, from 8:30 AM to 9 PM, if necessary to expedite completion of this project prior to the Ride Colorado bike race during the week of June 23. During work hours, motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic with 30-minute delays (possibly longer, at times, as traffic volumes increase).
