US 550 NORTH OF DURANGO: 3 PROJECTS UNDERWAY
Two highway chip seal projects get underway today;
Paving on Red Mountain Pass continues
PLEASE NOTE: All completion dates are weather permitting
US 550 Durango North Chip Seal; July 14 through Early August: The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Cactus Asphalt , of Phoenix, AZ begin a chip sealing project on US 550 north of Durango today; traffic impacts will begin tomorrow, July 15. The work, contracted for $1.09 million, will resurface the highway between mile marker 24 (north end of Durango) and mile marker 38 (near Rockwood). Crews will work Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM until the project is completed during the first week of August. US 550 Red Mountain Pass Resurfacing; May 27 through Late July: United companies completes pre-level paving on Red Mountain Pass today, July 14. The paving crew will begin laying the top mat of asphalt at mile marker 89 (near Ouray) and work south towards mile marker 80 at the pass summit. Shouldering of the new asphalt will also be ongoing as paving progresses south. Motorists can continue to expect 20 minute delays through the work zone. This project will be complete in late July. The project hotline is: (970) 318-0344. (Crews are also replacing delineator posts on the south side of the pass from MM 80 to MM 70 and temporary striping operations are underway. These operations should have minimal impact on traffic.)
US 550 Ouray North Chip Seal: July 14 through July 18: CDOT Maintenance crews began a project to chip seal a section of US 550 today from mile marker 98 (about 6 miles north of Ouray) to Ridgway. Work will take place from 7 AM to 5:30 PM through Friday, July 18. There will be single-lane, alternating traffic and delays.
