CDOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR STRATEGIC TRANSIT PROJECTS
STATEWIDE - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is now accepting applications for strategic transit projects, which will be funded by the Senate Bill 97-001 program. For this particular call of projects, only those that involve capital and planning will be eligible. This can include rolling stock, modal facilities, rail and bus rapid transit elements and planning studies.
“With these projects, we hope to increase transportation options and transit ridership through improving transit connections between communities and to increase access to critical destinations,” said Transportation Commissioner and Task Force Chairman Steve Parker. “In order to meet this goal, we will be looking for projects that are consistent with the regional planning priorities as indicated in the 2035 plan and increase mobility on congested portions of the state highway system.”
CDOT is projected to have $71 million available for strategic transit projects for the next four-year period, which is 2009-2012. The actual amount of funding is uncertain and subject to change based on economic conditions that affect state revenue collections, as well as legislative budget and statutory actions.
Those interested in applying for funding must submit proposals of planned projects for the four-year period. Applications must be submitted via e-mail to adam.rolstad@dot.state.co.us no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. To obtain the application and review the qualification and evaluation criteria, please visit http://www.dot.state.co.us/commission/taskforcemeeting.cfm. If you have additional questions, please contact Tom Mauser at 303-757-9768 or tom.mauser@dot.state.co.us.
The Strategic Transit Task Force, with input from CDOT staff and the appropriate Transportation Planning Region/Metropolitan Planning Organization, will then review all applications and provide a list of recommended projects to the Transportation Commission for approval in November 2008.
The Strategic Transit Task Force, established by the Transportation Commission, consists of 12 members from various transportation and local agencies across the state, allowing for statewide cooperation and input. The Task Force is made of up representatives from the Regional Transportation District, Boulder County, Larimer County, El Paso County, Eastern Colorado, the I-70 Mountain Corridor, as well as several members from Western Colorado.
