Project Completed

Work began May 27th on the Nighttime I-70 Vail Overlay Project. This project resurfaced and improved safety on the section of I-70 between Dowd Junction (at US 24) and the East Vail Exit:

  • To reduce impacts to the traveling public, work was performed at night from 6:30pm to 6:30am, Sunday through Thursday.
  • The project resurfaced this section of I-70 with a new surface designed to reduce noise.
  • Along with the highway resurfacing, on and off ramps were also paved, sections of guardrails replaced and portions of the median made taller with a glare screen for safer driving conditions.
  • Speed limits were reduced to 40 mph during construction. Normal speeds resumed during daytime hours.
  • Stopping traffic was kept to a minimum. Generally, one lane in each direction was kept open during the entire project.
  • Uniformed patrols were in the area and traffic fines were doubled in the construction zone.

More information was provided through:

  • Weekly Friday advertisements that were placed in the Vail Daily updating upcoming construction activity.
  • The Hotline which was updated regularly.
