Environmental Information

CDOT completed a Maroon Creek Bridge design in 1990, but construction was ultimately delayed due to the presence of wetlands and riparian zones in the area and corresponding environmental concerns. By 1994, the bridge replacement project was put on hold pending the results of an environmental study conducted between the Buttermilk ski area and Main Street in Aspen. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) signed the “State Highway 82, Entrance to Aspen, Record of Decision (ROD)” in 1998, which provided recommended improvements to the Maroon Creek Bridge that took into account results of the completed environmental impact statement. The final replacement and rehabilitation bridge designs will follow these environmental recommendations.
