Alvin Daryl Fitzsimmons, CDOT Retiree, passed away August 2, 2008 at the age of 81. Mr. Fitzsimmons worked as a mechanic in Pueblo for 20 years and retired on 4-30-92. Debra Tucker's mother, Edna McDonald, passed away on July 24 in Whitehall, Illinois. Debra works in the Region 2 Pueblo Maintenance Office. Edna was 80 years old. Funeral services are being held on Aug 14th in Jersey Ville, IL. Condolences may be sent to: Debra Tucker

Memorial services for Eugene C. Long, 70, and Jeanette Long, 68, of Lafayette, CO, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Windsor. Inurnment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Windsor. Eugene and Jeanette Long were the parents of Brian Long, CDOT Region 2 Project Engineer in the Lamar Residency. They died on Aug. 1, 2008, in a private plane crash on the eastern slope of the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington. They were enroute home to Colorado from a multi-day guided flying trip to Alaska at the time of the accident. On Thursday, July 31st, Walter McCarthy, a CDOT employee until 1995, passed away. He was thought to have worked in facilities management at headquarters and painted the mural that is at the end of the hallway on the first floor. Below are details for his service. A Message From Richard Reynolds, Region 5 RTD It is with great sadness that I tell you we lost one of one of our CDOT family in Region 5 last night. Robin DiFerdinando, who retired from CDOT on March 31, 2008 and returned to work for CDOT as a temporary employee, collapsed after performing materials testing on a project last night and passed away. Robin began work for CDOT in Maintenance Section 3 as a TM I on May 1, 1985, and progressed to a TM II at our Ignacio Patrol. He transferred to the Materials Lab as an EPST I in July 2004. Robin worked for Region 5 for 23 years; he will be missed by all. Johnie and Ted Abad lost their son Dale Abad, age 28, on Sunday, July 27, 2008. Arrangements have been made for visitation at 6:00 pm on Friday, August 1 at Mt. Olivet Mortuary, located at 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033. A service will be held for Dale on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 9:00 am, also at Mt. Olivet Mortuary. There will be a reception following the service at Johnie and Ted's home at the address listed below. For those who will be attending the reception, they would greatly appreciate if you can bring a dish to share. Hayne Hutchinson, 57, a 22-year state employee and most recently Statewide Railroad Coordinator for the CDOT Traffic Engineering Branch, passed away on Saturday, July 26, following a two-year battle with cancer. He had worked at CDOH/CDOT since 1989. He is survived by his wife Bethel and two adult step-children. A memorial service for Hayne Hutchinson will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, August 4th at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue, Denver, CO 80236. Please park Staging Area C and someone will direct you from there. If you wish to make a donation to a charity in Hayne's name, the family requested it be made to American Melanoma Foundation 12395 El Camino Real, Suite 117, San Diego, CA 92130 . Mark Schlogel passed away July 27, 2008 after a short battle with bone cancer. Mark was the manager of Application Development in the IT Office at Headquarters. A celebration of Mark's life will be held at a memorial service Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Horan McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122. A funeral notice and online guest book are available at www.horanandmcconaty.com/ . The family has requested that no flowers or plants be sent. In lieu of flowers or plants, a memory board is being made at HQ in Suite 290 and CDOT employees are encouraged to post pictures and memories of Mark on it. It will be given to the family for the memorial service. There will be a BBQ picnic following the memorial service at the home of one of Mark's neighbors. At Mark's request dress is casual for the memorial and the picnic. Details will be announced at the service & all are welcome.
