The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) investigated solutions to meet the future transportation needs on State Highway (SH) 392, Carpenter Road and Larimer County Road (LCR) 32, from US 287 through Windsor. The Windsor area is experiencing high growth, and as development occurs along the roadway, state and local planning agencies need to plan how much land to set aside for future transportation needs. The North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization, (NFRMPO) defines a vision for future transportation needs in Northern Colorado in its 2030 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The RTP identifies SH 392, LCR 32, and Carpenter Road as a Regionally Significant Corridor. Regionally Significant Corridors are defined as “transportation corridors that connect communities by facilitating the timely and safe movement of people, goods, information and services.” Regionally Significant Corridors are distinguished from other roadways by high levels of current and projected travel demand between residential areas and activity centers in the region. This Environmental Overview Study investigated potential transportation solutions to meet the study purpose and need. The study considered regional transportation needs, existing constraints and environmental resources, and public input to evaluate alternatives. The final report includes recommended Right of Way widths for each of the aternatives studied, which can be used by local planning agencies to set aside land as development occurs. |
