2035 Traffic Forecasts and the Midland
Expressway
In August, 2006 we presented
the design options for the Midland Expressway. This recommended alternative
was based on 2030 traffic forecasts. After some delays, the Pikes
Peak Area Council of Governments released the regional traffic forecasts
to the project team in late 2007. We are using those forecasts to
determine if the Midland Expressway design requires modifications.
Next Steps
Once we have analyzed the operations and confirmed the
required improvements, we will be hosting a series of workshops
on what the Midland Expressway should look like – wall treatments,
bridges, signage, lighting, gateway features, wayfinding signs and
other visuals. The next public meeting will be this summer. We look
forward to your input on these important design and feature issues.

Project Overview
This multi-year journey started in the fall of 2004. Your participation
and interest are welcomed and encouraged. Please read on and check out
the FAQ's and the project description. Contact
us with any questions or comments along the way as together we shape
the future for this important Corridor in our community.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) assembled a team to study short-
and long-term strategies to address capacity issues on the US 24 West
corridor from Manitou Springs to I-25. The team consists of CDOT, FHWA,
and the consulting firms of CH2M HILL and Wilson & Company.
The team is conducting an Environmental Assessment (EA)
to explore all reasonable and feasible solutions to address future transportation
needs in the corridor.
The team is working closely with cities, El Paso County
and other stakeholders to ensure that all voices are heard. Outreach efforts
include small group meetings, open houses, workshops, newsletters, a speakers
bureau and this Web site. To make sure your voice is heard Contact
