SB 1 Transit Task Force Meeting DATE: August 19, 2008 The primary purpose of the Task Force meeting will be to distribute and discuss the applications that have been received for SB 1 funding for 2009-12. We'll provide you with the applications and scoring sheets, offer some general comments about the applications and some funding scenarios, and discuss the scoring procedures. No doubt you are wondering how many applications we received (and how many pages you'll have to read!) We received a total of 43 applications from 30 organizations. They requested a total of over $232 million, whereas the most recent projection of funding was about $71 million over the four years (but most likely will be less, based on current trends). Attached you'll find a spreadsheet that lists all the applicants, lists the project type, provides a general project description, and lists the total dollar request and the year(s) in which funds were requested.
July 3, 2008 Transit Operators, TPRs/MPOs, and Others with an Interest in Transit, I am writing to make you aware of an emerging issue regarding strategic transit funding and the opportunity to submit comments on it. As you may know, a Call for Projects has been issued for strategic projects for the years 2009 to 2012. The SB 1 Transit Task Force is the 12-member committee that makes recommendations to the Colorado Transportation Commission on how CDOT should award the 10% of Senate Bill 1 funds that are set aside for strategic transit projects. It has been suggested that the Task Force consider allocating a portion of the 2009 funds to assist with increasing fuel expenses. The Task Force discussed this issue on a conference call and agreed to provide an opportunity for interested parties to comment on the issue. Instructions and background materials for submitting comments are provided below.

Transit Providers, TPRs, MPOs, Local Governments, Other Interested Parties:
CDOT’s Strategic Transit Task Force is now soliciting applications for SB 1 funds that are expected to be available for the years 2009-2012. This Call for Projects is intended for organizations interested in proposing strategic transit projects. Project applications must be submitted electronically to CDOT no later than 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Please note that this is an earlier date than was originally proposed in previous discussions by the Task Force. The date was moved up (from August 12) in order to allow more time for TPR/MPO review. Some of you may have heard that at its last meeting the Task Force discussed the option of awarding some funds to supplement transit agencies' fuel cost increases. No decision was made on that issue, but the Task Force agreed to continue discussing the possibility; however, NO applications will be accepted requesting funds for increased fuel costs or for any other operating costs. Attached you will find a cover letter that outlines the Strategic Transit Program, sets forth the eligibility criteria, the threshold and evaluation criteria, and other information regarding the application process. Please note that only capital and planning projects are eligible for funding, not operating costs.
