AUGUST BEGINS WITH RECORDS AT TUNNEL
CLEAR CREEK/SUMMIT COUNTIES – Three traffic records were set at the Eisenhower Tunnel this past weekend (see attached tables).
The three-day traffic count (Friday, August 1 – Sunday, August 3) of 142,411 was the third highest in tunnel’s 35-year history. And two records were set on Sunday, when 49,470 vehicles traveled through the tunnels, the fourth highest 24 hour count, which included the seventh highest hourly count (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.), of 4,441 vehicles. All counts are for eastbound and westbound traffic.
As of July 31, 2008, 6,769,302 vehicles have gone through the Eisenhower Tunnel, 131,948 less than the 6,901,250 that traveled through as of July 31, 2007.
