PROJECT UPDATE
SH 125 Windy Gap Reservoir (at US 40) North:
Tree Removal Complete; Paving Begins in Sept.
GRAND COUNTY - United Companies was awarded a $2.97 million contract from the Colorado Department of Transportation to resurface SH 125, from the intersection with US 40 north to mile marker 14. Major work items for this project include the removal of 671 lodge pole pine trees, heating and remixing of the existing surface followed by a chip seal next season, as planned.
The tree removal portion of the project ended today, August 5; there will be no traffic impacts until paving begins. The heating and remixing treatment is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 2. The lag time between the end of tree removal and beginning the heating and remixing is due to the tree removal going much quicker than anticipated, and the subcontractor for the heating and remixing experiencing some minor delays.
When paving begins in September, motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic, with delays of approximately 20 minutes, between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Friday. The project is scheduled for completion by mid- to late-October.
A weekly update for the project will be available by calling the project hotline at 970-531-3985. For information on other CDOT projects statewide, the public may log on to www.cotrip.org or call 511. CDOT and United Companies thank motorists for going Slow for the Cone Zone!
