ROSITA ROAD INTERSECTION PROJECT SET TO START
CUSTER COUNTY – Safety improvements will be made at the State Highway 69/Rosita Road (Custer County Road 328) intersection, south of Westcliffe, as part of a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project that begins next week.
Work includes construction of a left turn lane from southbound SH 69 to Rosita Road and a new right turn lane from northbound SH 69 to Rosita Road. Asphalt paving, repairing and extending culverts, embankment and erosion control work, signing and striping also are included in the project.
In addition to the intersection work, a curve slope will be improved and new guardrail installed along a segment of SH 69, about five miles south of Rosita Road, to increase driver safety.
Beginning on Monday, August 11, drivers can expect occasional delays of up to 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, as traffic is stopped or reduced to a single lane, with flaggers alternating vehicles through the work zone. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph through the project area and down to 30 mph in the active work zone. Vehicles wider than 14 feet also will be restricted from traveling through this segment of SH 69 during work hours.
Kiewit Western Inc. of Littleton, CO is the contractor for the $954,000 project. It is scheduled for completion in October 2008.
