Toll Rates

How do I pay a toll?
All tolls are collected by electronic toll collection. This means no stopping; no tollbooth congestion; and no change is needed. Simply drive under the electronic toll reader and the toll is deducted automatically from an active EXpressToll account. Because there are no tollbooths, all toll-paying vehicles need a transponder to pay the required tolls.

Do I need a transponder to access the lanes?
Only solo drivers are required to have a transponder. No tolls are charged to carpools, motorcycles, or buses. Those that drive alone are required to pay a toll each time they enter the HOV/Express Lanes. Carpool vehicles are encouraged to get a transponder so they have the option of using the Express Lane at some point when only one occupant is in the vehicle.

Can I use my E-470/Northwest Parkway/EXpressToll Transponder on the I-25 lanes?
The HOV/Express Lanes transponder systems is fully compatible with that of E-470 and the Northwest Parkway. Carpools using the HOV Lane are not charged a toll.

How do I obtain a transponder?
You can obtain a transponder and create an active account by visiting, www.expresstoll.com or by calling EXpress Toll Customer Service locally at (303) 537-3470 or toll free at 1-888-946-3470. For a list of retail establishments where you can sign up directly, visit www.expresstoll.com. Accounts can be established with a check or credit card.

How much will I pay for a toll?
Prices for the toll lanes change based upon the time of day. The varying toll rate manages traffic such that HOV/Express Lanes never become congested. Electronic message signs and other static signs clearly display the current toll price prior to entrance points.

Below is a toll schedule for the HOV/Express Lanes. Vehicles with four or more axles have to pay the $18 fee in addition to the base toll rate. This toll schedule could change if it is found to be insufficient at providing reliable, uncongested travel times on the facility.

How will I know what the toll rate is?
Toll rates vary by time of day and are posted on signs in advance of the entrance to the lanes to enable drivers to make a choice of whether or not to enter the lanes. However, it's important to note that a vehicle is charged a toll when it crosses the toll collection point at 58th Avenue, not when it enters the facility. The toll rate at the time when a vehicle passes through the toll collection point is the amount the vehicle will be charged.

Toll prices vary throughout the day to keep traffic flowing as usual for HOV lane users.

What happens if I get caught using the lanes without a transponder?
If any vehicle without a transponder – including carpool vehicles – passes beneath the electronic toll collector in the Express Lane, a photo is automatically taken and the driver of the vehicle will be issued a citation by mail. The fine for using the Express Lane without a transponder is $70. Please note no Insufficient Funds forms (ISFs) will be used on the I-25 Express Lanes .
