| Project Updates & Impacts TRAFFIC SWITCH ONTO NEW MAROON CREEK BRIDGE Construction of the new Maroon Creek Bridge is complete, aside from work on lighting and landscaping. An official grand opening, however, will await the completion of the City of Aspen’s new bus lanes in October. Once the bus lanes project is finished, crews will stripe the bridge approaches and the entire stretch, from the Aspen Airport Business Center (AABC) into Aspen, will be complete. For more information on Maroon Creek Bridge construction, the public may contact Terry Ostrom, (970) 379-1120. VEHICLES: Construction to date has caused little or no impacts to vehicle/bus traffic on State Highway 82, except for occasional equipment/truck crossing. Any traffic stops and lane reductions on SH 82 will occur after 7:00 P.M. There will be no traffic interference during holidays or holiday weekends. CYCLISTS/PEDESTRIANS: Are now using the new structure. OTHER PROJECT INFORMATION: Construction of the new Maroon Creek Bridge began June 27, 2005; work has involved mostly off-road activities for the majority of the project. The Colorado Department of Transportation awarded the project to BTE/Atkinson JV for $13.96 million. This project, just west of Aspen , involves the construction of a single concrete box girder structure (please see http://www.dot.state.co.us/MaroonCreek/design.cfm for photo) north of the existing structure, where a separate pedestrian bridge had existed. The pedestrian bridge was removed, as the new structure will include a 12-foot bike/pedestrian lane. Upon completion of the new bridge, the existing historical bridge, built in 1888 by Midland Railroad, will remain in place. |
