West Vail Pass Environmental Assessment Placed On Hold August 21, 2007 - The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced that the West Vail Pass Environmental Assessment study has been placed on hold until the Collaborative Effort for the I-70 Mountain Corridor Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) has recommended a preferred alternative. Click here to visit the PEIS Web site. Welcome to the West Vail Pass Environmental Assessment (EA) Web site. This site is your best resource for learning about the project and contacting the project team with your comments and questions. The EA will aim to improve safety on the west side of Vail Pass, where the highway's steep grades frequently result in conflicts between vehicles traveling at substantially different speeds. The project setting is in the White River National Forest and contains scenic and sensitive environmental resources. Learn more about the project. The EA process began in late 2006, and is expected to continue through 2008. To review alternatives under consideration and other technical documents prepared in this EA, visit the study progress page. Click here to view the study timeline. We welcome your participation in the study. Open houses will be held to offer information and provide opportunities to ask questions and submit comments. Please check the Public Involvement page for information on the next open house. Answers to common study questions are available on the FAQs (frequently asked questions) page. You can also contact us to ask questions and provide comments at any time during the study. The links page provides information on other study-related resources on the web. Media contacts and press releases are available in the Press Room. Click here to meet the West Vail Pass EA team. |
